Animated content for the documentary film “Tasteless.”

A retrospective on the successful 1980s book series “Truly Tasteless Jokes”

The producers of the film wanted animated segments to support interviews regarding the book.

I was tasked with developing the look, storyboards, character design and animation.

These segments were animated using a combination of hand drawn and modern animation techniques.

Characters were animated in Adobe Animate and the torn paper effects were added in post usign After Effects.

STYLE FRAMES

The paper texture and the degenerative look to the segment were inspired by the cheap paper the books were printed on and the degenerate nature of the jokes themselves.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Keeping with the overall theme of degenerative, I wanted the characters to look like silly doodles a person may draw in the margins of a book or a post-it note.
